Many people flocked to Southern Illinois to see the great solar eclipse in its totality. And several thousand wandered over to Carterville, IL, to take in the Moonstock Festival. What’s the Moonstock Festival? It was billed as a four-day music festival to celebrate the eclipse and a one time excuse to get Ozzy Osbourne to sing Bark at the Moon during the rare astronomical event.
Ozzy opened his set with “Bark,” and the timing was pretty damn good. He and his band began the song in hazy sunshine, then it got dark in the middle of the song, then light again by the end of it. Remember the totality – the period of time when the moon was totally blocking out the sun’s rays – only took about two and a half minutes. Ozzy sure doesn’t sing well anymore, but this had to be a thrill to witness the solar eclipse alone, let along with “Bark at the Moon” being performed by a legend of rock.
